Space Bag® Tips, Hints and FAQ

Sometimes when you pack baby clothes or Manchester, the seal in the Space Bag can become ‘unstuck’. This can be due to the oils that are in the fabrics. If this does occur, simply wipe the seal with a clean cloth or paper towel and re-seal.

Remember not to over fill your Space Bag as this can also undo the seal.

What makes Space Bag® watertight and air tight?

Three design features work together to create the airtight seal and maintain the vacuum in Space Bag®.

What are the advantages of vacuum-sealing?

The most common enemies of stored items are dirt, mildew, insects and water, along with oxidation and ultraviolet light. Oxidation causes discoloration and accelerates the spread of any stains present in fabric. Vacuum-sealing drastically reduces the effects of oxidation and retards growth of mildew. Most importantly, vacuum-sealing compresses many items and saves valuable storage space.

How long does the Space Bag® vacuum seal last?

Approximately 12 months, after which the bag can be resealed.

What items cannot be stored in Space Bag®?

Do not use Space Bag® to store food items or items made of leather or fur. If you have questions regarding the effects of vacuum-storage on a specific item, check with the manufacturer. Precaution: Items filled with down and feathers can be vacuum-sealed, but compressing them more than about 50% may damage feathers and reduce their insulating ability.

What temperature range is safe for storing items in Space Bag® Products?

Space Bag® should be stored in areas where temperatures will not exceed 130 degrees F. (54 C) or fall below 32 degrees F.(0 C)

How often should items be removed?

Every six months, air out and restore loft by fluffing or tumbling in dryer set on “cool.”

Will moving a sealed Space Bag® from one location to another affect the vacuum seal?

The Sure-Zip™ closure system is sturdy but it can be jarred or flexed open with rough handling. To make sure the Space Bag® seal holds, do not hold or carry the sealed bag near the zipper. Carry the bag vertically (zipper up) to minimize stress on the closure system. Hold at or near the middle of the bag and store the bag vertically (zipper up) or lying flat.

What is the most common use for the Space Bag® vacuum-seal bag?

Everyday household storage of “soft” items such as pillows, comforters, linens, sweaters, etc., is the most common use.

What type of zip closure is used?

Polyethylene plastic, like the zipper on a sandwich bag. The main difference is that a sandwich bag zipper is not air tight. The Space Bag® zipper is airtight and watertight.

How thick are the bags?

0.22 mm (double thickness)
